In 2017, Norm Parrish from New York founded the Sattes-Parrish Cemetery Association after learning his grandfather was buried there. Today, the organization lifts and repairs markers, maintains the grass, and uses access control systems to prevent vandalism. Our dedication ensures the cemetery is preserved and honored for future generations. Prior to this, the cemetery was severely neglected.
After the last burial in the 1980s, vandalism plagued the cemetery with gravestones and memorials frequently damaged. The overgrowth became so severe that it was nearly impossible to walk through or locate grave markers. Despite numerous complaints from family members, local officials failed to take action, allowing the neglect to continue unchecked. This ends with our efforts!
Sattes Cemetery is one of the many neglected family cemeteries in West Virginia. Individuals can help by donating money, time, and effort. However, raising awareness and contacting city officials for a long-term care solution is the most effective approach. This ensures the cemetery remains maintained long after our team is gone.
